Q: Now that I know what shade of red suits me, I can’t find it! There only seems to be one uniform shade across all clothing stores right now. I still would like to be able to wear red. What should I do? A: This is a common problem experienced by all of us at one time or another because of the ever evolving colour cycle. The colours you see in store are heavily influenced by the fashion powers that be. They are set for the season as early as the trade shows, before any models have strutted the catwalks. The major trends tend to evolve over a period of several years until eventually, it changes, so for a period, there may be almost only warm flame reds in, and then eventually it changes to cool raspberry red. This does not mean you should wear the wrong red out of desperation and look like you have permanent jet lag- there are better solutions to ease your problem. Shop where reds are stocked all year round in plentiful variety: for women this would be lipstick counter, and for men the tie stand. There you should find reds of all varieties, cool, warm, light, dark, bright and muted. Don’t underestimate the transformative power of a shot of red on or near your face! Alternatively, think pink and shop shades such as rose and fuchsia for those who suit cool colours, and coral and salmon for those who suit warm colours. These will do a similar job to red, to bring warmth and life to your appearance. Wising you happy shopping! Faye PS. I just love browsing the lipstick counters and looking at all the shades, but then, I am a colour nerd ;)If you would like more information about discovering the right red for you, read my article “Dare to wear Red” >>
